Mamiyas are unique among TLRs for having fully interchangeable lenses, known for their sharpness and contrast. Most of my shots have been with the regular 80mm lens, but I’ve also used a wide 55mm and a longer 180mm. I’m thrilled with the quality of its exposures, but its weight (about 4 or 5 lbs.) can get a little tiresome.

From its plastic lens to its useless aperture setting, absolutely nothing about the Holga says quality. It’s prone to light leaks, especially if you insist on knowing what frame you’re on, and its focus is soft at best. Still, it turns out some interesting prints sometimes.

Its lens opens up to f\/2.0 at wide zoom, way better than those teeny lenses on so many digis. Four megapixels make for decent enlargements, and it’s got lots of nice features like spot metering, auto-exposure lock, and macro capability. The swiveling viewfinder screen adds immensely to its usefulness.

Tiny but solid, it demands to go everywhere, making it easy to start seeing the world through film. Everyone without a camera should get something like this. $100 will get you a lens far better than a disposable’s, and the negatives will still be more detailed than most any digital image long after your computer’s hard drive has died.
